Historian Report - January 2002

FROM THE HISTORIAN:

Navy Nuclear Weapons Program History, 1959 to Present:  I continue to conduct research and add to the draft of the Navy nuclear weapons program history.  I need information about what WTs did off the coast of Vietnam during the war, information about Clarksville Base, anecdotes / stories about weapons transportation, some words about Tomahawk and Polaris / Poseidon, interesting stories about R&D, start of the PRP, and anything else you'd care to contribute.

Memorabilia:  The NNWA seeks additional material items, items of interest, and documents to add to our collection.  We would especially like to receive unclassified hardware and unclassified technical documents.  Cruise books create a great deal of interest at the reunions.  If you're thinking about tossing them, donate them to the NNWA collection.  At least bring them to the reunion for adult show and tell.

Personal Histories:  While in the NW program, you experienced events and saw things that are absolutely unique to the Navy and to human history.  This year I received many pages of information from members responding to my appeal.  For current members, please continue to review your experiences, write them, and send me a copy.  Your children and grandchildren will be amazed and I will be thankful.  For new members completing the application form, please spend more than a few minutes writing duty stations and take the time to tell the association about yourself, what you did, where you went, who was with you, and the great and interesting things you did.
