I've had Melanoma, Lymphoma (almost killed me) and a touch of prostate. The lymphoma was "strange" according to my GP and Surgeon. They are also convinced I like a good fight 🙂 The prostrate is Watch and wait. The uro guy wants to cut, but too much goes on in that neighborhood to cut willy nilly 🙂 If they cut wrong willy can't stand and deliver 🙂

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2001 at age 55 (pretty early). Just wondering if anyone else who worked with the weapons has had prostate cancer....I'm fine now.

stan budz wrote on September 16, 2024 at 9:08 am
anyone know what the GCT/ARI had to be before being allowed into GMT in NAVY back in 1962??
Todd E Waldeck wrote on September 16, 2024 at 9:08 am
my grandfather is Vernon Lee Waldeck and retired as a cwo 3 from Skiffes Creek Annex in 1967. He has dementia and cant remember names of his co workers. He only spoke of his early years before he got into NUKES from there on he wouldn't ever talk about it. I would like to know what I can that is declassified.

Finally released- "Broken Arrow, Volume II- A Disclosure of Significant U.S., Soviet, and British Nuclear Weapons Incidents and Accidents , 1945-2008" by Michael H. Maggelet and James C. Oskins. 338 pages with tons of photos.

After three years of FOIA requests (some still pending) Jim and I have finally published our newest research on additional US nuclear weapons accidents, including the loss of a suspected Mk15 Mod 0 bomb off NAS Mayport in June 1957, USN warship hit by NVN artillery, lightning strikes on USAF missiles, etc. Also included is declassified Board of Inquiry material on the loss of USS Scorpion, and USS Kennedy and USS Belknap collision. We cover some not-so-well- known Soviet incidents and UK incidents, along with some newly declassified documents on known DOD accidents and informative chapters on Bent Spears.

Yours, Mike

Reading through all the names and pages brought back some great memories. WOW! I've been retired for 12 years now and can still remember my first day on the USS Nimitz. Following that was Adak, Earle, NWTGP, and Charleston. I do miss the old days.

Don't see anyone from operation Dominic? I was on the USS Jerome County LST 848. On deck for one atmospheric test and in the 'harbor' at Johnson Island when the very last one blew apart on the launch pad. We all got a dose from that one!! 1962-1963.

For Saratoga Sailors the government is letting a contract for the scrapping of your ship. For JFK sailors it looks like the ship is going to be a museum in Rhode Island

I served with the 52nd Ordinance Co. S.A.D.S. 68th maintenance battallion Third U.S. Army at Clarksville Base "Birdcage" 1967-68 and have not made contact with any member of this special ammo company since July 1968 and have never heard any validated history that my unit actually existed and believe me it did at the Clarksville Base.

Shipmates,
I am looking forward to seeing you in Albuquerque in the fall of 2011. Over the years, I have noticed that some of you have chosen not to participate in the NNWA reunions. As many of you are aware, Albuquerque was home base for many of us in the NW and GMT ratings. The last reunion here was in 1997. Hope you can make it next year.

Below I have posted an email from Jackie Norris. It appears that after a long fight Mel Norris will succumb to pancreatic cancer. Please keep the family and Mel in your thoughts and prayers.
Lou Rivera, GMTC, USN (ret)

Good Evening Family & Friends,
It is with a very heavy heart that I write to y'all tonight. I brought Mel home from the hospital in Birmingham yesterday afternoon. The doctor there had done all he could do. The hospice nurse came after we got home and again today. She will be coming twice a week up until the end. Yes, the end is near. I am having a very hard time accepting that fact. I asked the doctor all kinds of questions, but he always had the same answer. So we are home surrounded with love from our children, family, and friends. There's not much more I can say at this time. I will try to keep people updated as best as I can. PLEASE continue to pray for us as I have to let him go. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and continued support. Take care.

Hugs,
Jackie

Do you have any information regarding UFO activity at USN nuclear weapons sites? If so, please contact me. (Former and retired USN personnel only please.)

All responses will be kept strictly confidential unless I am given permission to publish them.

Declassified U.S. government documents confirm hundreds of incidents of UFO sightings at nuclear weapons sites during the Cold War. I research these cases and have interviewed more than 120 ex-military personnel about them.

Can you or someone you know add information to my database? Regardless, if you write to me, I will send you info about the USN-related UFO cases I already know about.
